Africola Canteen
Africola, one of the country’s best restaurants, has just announced the opening of a casual new eatery – and it’s slated to arrive in a Norwood at the end of July.
Dubbed Africola Canteen, the new spot will have the same spirit as its older sibling, with a menu featuring a selection of Africola’s greatest hits and a strong focus on plant-based dishes. Diners can also expect a healthy serve of “laser sharp meat cookery,” according to a statement. Leading the charge will be head chef Joel Tisato and development chef Imogen Czulowski, along with owner-chef Duncan Welgemoed.
While Africola’s booking system is usually heaving beneath the weight of constant reservations, Canteen will be geared towards casual drop-ins and a steady takeaway trade. Diners can grab Africola favourites – plus vibrant salads from a rotating list of around 50 – to take home or eat along the Parade.
To drink, there’ll be a formidable selection of non-alcoholic options including kombuchas, shrubs and organic sodas. And for the first time ever, Africola condiments such as the myth-level Mpumalanga Fire sauce will be available to take away.
