• Everyone’s favourite everyday cook Julia Busuttil Nishimura teamed up with Farmer Jo on a pastel green granola – with matcha oats, strawberries and white-chocolate almonds. Grab a bag or head into Loam, the Ace Hotel’s ground floor eatery, to try it sprinkled over porridge with just-squeezed strawberry juice and citrusy crème fraîche. Available till the end of August.

• Head to Coogee cocktail bar Will’s in August for an Oklahoma-style Wagyu cheeseburger on the house with every drink over $10. We’re lovin’ it.

• We like to party, and the best spot this weekend is The 86 Club’s pop-up at Earl’s Juke Joint on Sunday night. Four bar heavyweights (from The Waratah, Maker and Brisbane’s Frog’s Hollow Saloon) are behind this disco, and it's all about excellent drinks, ’70s and ’80s music and impeccable vibes. Head in from 8pm, entry’s free.

What we covered this week

• First look: You’ll want to pay attention to Attenzione, Redfern’s brand new dining room. Four talented mates are behind it, there are ludicrously photogenic pastas and an RSL-core speakeasy.

• Closure: Cirrus, “one of the best seafood restaurants in the world”, is closing. The Bentley crew’s seafood bistro in Barangaroo’s final service is next month, but there are exciting things coming.

• Local distillery Archie Rose to release two new whiskies together with the Sydney Opera House – and you can design the drops (and win the pair).

• First look: Philter adds to the sporty fever taking over the world with its brand new sports bar and pool room. There’s a gallery wall of streakers in the retro space, plus prawn tacos and hotdogs to go with the team’s ripper crafties.

Hot tables: all the new restaurant, bar and cafe openings we got excited about last month – including perhaps the coolest cafe in Sydney, a Korean deli and a suave new Mexican joint.

This One Thing: a standout affogato taking you to Italy.

You might’ve missed

• The original Saint Peter hooked the world – but can the sequel reel it in? We visited the marble-clad sliver on Oxford Street one more time before the Nilands move to the Grand National Hotel.

• First look: It’s bluebird days only at Kakigori Kaiji, the new specialty shaved-ice shop in Haymarket. Mountains of fluffy white snow are carved from glassy blocks of ice imported from Japan – and it’s the only place in Sydney you can get it.

• First service: Rafi Urbnsurf barrels in with “sub-zero” cocktails and an excellent view. Head to Olympic Park for a Mai Tai and seafood-heavy feast, whether you hit the waves or not.
